Managing Consultant & Permanent Recruitment for the East Region

Richard Ward

Richard has worked for U&P for 16 years, having been invited to join the company soon after it formed.

Loyal by nature, he's passionate about recruitment, the property sector, and developing his team.

Outside of work he’s a sun worshipper, and has the most gorgeous Springer Spaniel, Ruby.

What is your role?
I’m the Managing Consultant. I wear two hats, as it’s my job to manage the office and I also run the perm recruitment for the East Region.

What did you do before joining U&P?
I worked for NatWest Bank for 17 years in a number of roles, including regional trainer and as a branch manager. I’ve been with U&P for 16 years now. As you can tell, loyalty is important to me.

Why did you join U&P?
Our Managing Director, Tim, is a personal friend, and not long after U&P was formed, he asked if I’d like to be involved. I’m glad that I said ‘yes’!

What’s great about working for U&P?
As expected, I enjoy working with Tim. We both have a ginormous passion for recruitment and the property sector. Luckily, our fantastic team share our passion about our business and for our brand. I enjoy working with them, and helping to develop them so that they achieve better things.

It’s always pleasing to put the ‘recruitment jigsaw’ together – matching the needs of our customers and talent to make them both happy.

What did you want to be when you were at school?
I honestly had no clue. I went on to do Accounts, Economics and Law at college… then I still had no clue! I took the first job offer which came along, which was at NatWest Bank.

What’s your favourite place to visit in the UK?
I love going back to my roots in Hertfordshire, as I was born in Watford.

What made you choose your current home?
Family is very important to me, and that’s why I live opposite my parents, with my brother and many friends close by.

What would be the setting of your dream home?
I’d like a Georgian-style detached home, set in five acres of land on the edge of a pretty Hampshire village with water flowing through the grounds, and woodland nearby. I have spent many hours thinking about this!

What do you enjoy outside of work?
My Springer Spaniel, Ruby, is the most important thing to me, and I love taking her for walks. I’m a sun worshipper and am lucky enough to have a holiday home in Spain which I visit at every opportunity.
